Our Program
Early recovery can be a difficult experience; our program is intended to aid residents, in body, mind and spirit, at every step of the way.BODY - Self-care through healthy living habits and activities.
Sunset House believes that the physical well being of the recovering individual is crucial to his recovery. Our Program stresses the importance of self-care through healthy living habits and activities. All clients of Sunset House adhere to a program of complete abstinence from all mind and mood altering substances. We hold weekly Nutrition Groups facilitated by licensed professionals to educate clients on the importance of proper diet and exercise. We also offer acupuncture (at no extra cost) to assist in the long-term detoxification of substances and to promote stress-relief. An on-site, commercial-grade gym is available for workout sessions. Finally, community activities such as volleyball or kayaking build healthy interpersonal skills while promoting the benefits of sober fun.

MIND - Emphasizing the therapeutic component of treatment.
The mental health of the recovering individual determines the quality of his sobriety; without addressing the issues that led men to turn to substance abuse initially, abstinence is often short-lived. As such, Sunset House places great emphasis on the therapeutic component of treatment.
- Clinical Program
- Group therapy
Weekly group therapy sessions focus on topics such as anger, grief, relapse prevention, and acceptance. - Individual therapy
Clients also see individual therapists for weekly sessions to provide specific, in-depth analyses of their feelings and concerns. - Treatment plans
Clients are issued multiple treatment plans throughout the course of treatment to guide them along the way to independence.
- Group therapy
- Living Skills
The second component of our mental health program focuses on fostering personal accountability and increasing self-esteem. Our men are taught daily living skills that will serve them throughout their lives. Hard work, responsibility, and assertiveness are keys to the overall success of the individual. All clients are expected to maintain full-time employment, academic or volunteer status while in treatment.
Structured daily life ensures that clients remain accountable to their actions and praised for their successes. Our main objective is to foster healthy habits that will stay with our men once the treatment experience has ended and they reenter the world.
SPIRIT - Stressing the significance of spirituality.
Spiritual Development is the cornerstone on which the rest of recovery is built. Sunset House stresses the significance of this belief by offering:
- Weekly Spirituality Groups
- Morning Meditation meetings
- voluntary contact with visiting members of a variety of faiths
